England Leeds Mission Update
Dear Parents, Leaders and Missionaries,
Yesterday, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and good people everywhere, joined in fasting and prayer to stay the disease circling the globe. It was an opportunity to seek the power of the Lord to heal the earth. It was a mighty time in our mission. We felt the strength of joining with you to seek a common blessing.
The restrictions on travel and the directions on social distancing have started to show some success in Great Britain. The latest report demonstrates a bit of flattening in the ‘new cases’ curve. It is hoped that this is not just a temporary lull.
The government has been very strong in committing people to stay indoors and maintain social distance.
Missionaries in the England Leeds Mission have been self-isolating for over two weeks. This has allowed us to avoid becoming ‘super spreaders’ and from becoming infected ourselves. During this time, we have focused on preparation and finding new ways to be missionaries. It has not been easy.
The amazing thing is to see the growth and strength of our missionaries. We have talked often about the Prophet Joseph Smith and his experience in liberty jail. His undeserved prison time was severe. Yet, it was also a time of great revelation. Missionaries are reaching out to others and using extra study time to come to a stronger knowledge of the Savior and His church.
This week we discussed how God provided manna in the wilderness for the children of Israel. This account, found in Exodus 16, provides great insight. “And they gathered it [manna] every morning, every man according to his eating” (vs 21). Every day they had enough.
We find that the Lord provides us enough support and stamina for the day. It is sufficient. We never have too little, but there is not much to spare at bedtime. The Lord provides us manna each morning as we arise. We know that there will be the necessary amount for the day (see 3 Nephi 13:34; Matthew 6:34).
The Lord’s Prayer includes this line, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matt 6:11) In focusing our attention on the simple and important things of life we ask the Savior, the Bread of Life, to provide us enough support and strength for the day at hand.
The missionaries are healthy and strong. They are not without moments of frustration, but they are resilient and determined to find ways to fulfill their purpose as missionaries.
We continue to be patient and obedient. We love you and the work that is taking place. We are praying for a swift end to this situation.
