England Leeds Mission Update

Family and Church Leaders of the England Leeds Missionaries,

Like you, we are affected by the coronavirus.  We monitor the issues constantly and direct our missionaries often. Today, most of our senior missionaries flew to their homes.  A number of younger missionaries with health compromises that we were informed of early, also were on flights.

We are still trying to find flights for a few others that became evident later in the process.  It has been daunting, but we have felt the strength of Heaven in our work.

We have been confined mostly to our flats.  We are exerting efforts to keep all of our missionaries safe. Sometimes they think that they are invincible. We know otherwise.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We feel your love and strength.  This will work out.

President and Sister Green

Yesterday Friday,  we sent this out to our Elders and Sisters.

It might be of interest to you:

Good morning elders and sisters We hope your morning is going well. The sun is shining in Leeds. We hope it is shining where you are. Despite the storms, the Savior’s light is shining on each of us. I realize that I gave mixed messages about today’s work at the 9:30 pm meeting. It wasn’t intentional. We will be more clear at our 9:30 AM meeting this morning. Please hold off making any plans until we meet. We are getting direction from the area presidency and the missionary department. Here are the guiding principles. 1. The coronavirus spread is ramping up towards a peak in England (see attached graph). 2. Being mobile and being around and near others dramatically increases the chances of being exposed to the disease, especially when more individuals around us are infected. It is a numbers game. The more people you interact with, the higher chance of exposure. 3. A number of missionaries will be going home. They do not need to be exposed before they depart. 4. The church is taking dramatic steps to protect Missionaries. We should do the same. 5. If we are careful now, we can avoid having the coronavirus spread through the mission. 6. Every exception to a general isolation plan increases the risk of exposure. 7. We can do missionary work in nontraditional ways. 8. Missionaries have the luxury of isolating. We do not have to be at jobs. We do not have to be in the public when the transmission is at its height. 9. The bottom line, we are going to do all we can to severely limit our exposure, which means we are going to severely limit our engagement with others. 10. If we adhere to this directive now, we can avoid long periods of forced isolation because of sickness. 11. We want to curtail our mobility while we are healthy. Not after we are sick and confined. 12. We will monitor this daily, but while we are getting Missionaries out of the country do all you can To eliminate engagement with others. 13. Do not take public transportation. 14. Keep all of the previous health precautions. Wash your hands often. Avoid sick people. Do not touch your face. Do not touch others. Keep a 2 m distance from others. Report any sickness. Take your temperature to get a baseline. 15. Isolate you and your companion in your apartment. If you must go out, go with a purpose. Go when crowds will be the smallest. Wash your hands before and after. These trips should be rare. 16. We will make further decisions, but for now we want to isolate ourselves so that our missionaries can return home without the exposure to the coronavirus. We love you. We know this is the antithesis of what you want to do. But, if we isolate now we can avoid spreading the coronavirus. a
