Christmas In England And The New Year!
Hiya everyone! We've made it! 2020 the start of the new decade. What a great finish to 2019 I've learned so much and developed a lot of skills I probably wouldn't have back home. This past week we had Christmas and it was sooo fun. I dont think I'll have a better one out on the mission.
So I'll just dive straight into my Christmas day. We first woke up past our alarms so we rushed to get ready because we had a breakfast at a member's house. For breakfast we had a proper English breakfast which consists of beans, toast, egg, bacon, and sausage. Beans with breakfast may sound weird to a lot of you but it actually is really good. It was great time in the morning. Around noon time we were invited by members to stay the rest of the day with them. These members are on the posher(richer) side and they love the missionaries. We spent the day with them playing games like Mario-cart, watching movies calling home and having a big roast feast. The members gave us some American sweets. I got Twinkie's and lucky charms. I can't complain about that. I miss all the good food and snacks from America so I was glad I got some. After Christmas day is actually another holiday in England called boxing day which is pretty much black Friday in America. It is also the day all the football matches are on and playing. So we got another prep day so we spent it with our district which was fun we played games and had French toast.
The rest of the week was pretty generic. We tried by Dob and Jacklyn but no success unfortunately. On Monday we had an exchange and since the weather was actually good and there was sun people were nice to us. They actually had conversations haha. This week is the last one of the transfer so we will see what ends up happening to Elder Priest and I.
Spiritual Thought:
Throughout my missionary experience I've studied chapter 6 in Preach my Gospel. My favorite chapter of them all. It is "How do I Develop Christlike Attributes?" I love this one because it has definitely helped me during my mission especially this past transfer. So I was studying humility and came across a great conference talk by Elder Steven E. Snow titled "Be thou Humble" he says,
"Like all of the Church’s hymns, “Be Thou Humble” teaches pure and simple truths. It teaches us that if we humble ourselves, our prayers are answered; we enjoy peace of mind; we serve more effectively in our callings; and, if we continue to be faithful, we will ultimately return to the presence of our Heavenly Father."
He also goes on to say,
"Humility enables us to have broken hearts when we sin or make mistakes and makes it possible for us to repent. Humility enables us to be better parents, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, neighbors and friends.
On the other hand, unnecessary pride can dissolve family relationships, break up marriages, and destroy friendships. It is especially important to remember humility when you feel contention rising in your home. Think of all the heartache you can avoid by humbling yourself to say, “I’m sorry”; “That was inconsiderate of me”; “What would you like to do?”; “I just wasn’t thinking”; or “I’m very proud of you.” If these little phrases were humbly used, there would be less contention and more peace in our homes."
I love this because if we humble ourselves and submit our will we can receive answers to our prayers. Being humble strengthens our relationships and peace in the home. He warns us of being prideful and contentious. These are of the devil and we must constant remind ourselves that.
Anyways I hope you've all had a great Christmas and Happy New year! Can't wait to see what 2020 has in store for all of us it's going to be a fantastic year of learning and growing. Have a great week everyone!!
