Knocking, Knocking And More Knocking
Hey everyone hope you've all had a great week! This week for me was just cold and and rainy. To really sum it up we had 1 lesson but got flogged so no lessons for the week, so we just knocked everyday.
One of the days we tried by an older man that we found and said we could come back. When we walked inside his home I asked if he was able to read and he said "yeah.....and it's completely rubbish. It makes no sense" now this threw Elder King and I way off. We were so confused. He was telling us that it uses "ye, and it came to pass, and now behold" too much and the verses make no sense. He said he started to read it and it made no sense to him. He hated the book and we tried to tell him how it was translated by the power of God through the Prophet Joseph smith. He kept telling us that it made no sense and our church was a bunch of rubbish. We tried to invite him to church, but he refused to and kept trying to tell us it made no sense to him. He would ramble about a random story, completely irrelevant and then go back to ,"no I will not come to your church". He then said he went to a Kingdom Hall with the Jehovahs Witnesses and that made sense to him. We gave up trying to talk to him and invited him to pray about it, then we left. Elder King was thinking that he might of been researching before and looked up some anti-LDS Dodge which I could totally see happening. It was an experience.
The rest of the week was pretty average we kept fulfilling our promise to God and placed a BOM and 2+ hours of finding. Then today came around and we did our proselyting in the morning. We had a Muslim guy come out and talked to us. We expected him to have a bunch of questions cause he didn't seem very devote, which he wasn't but he was very firm in his belief. He started trying to preach to us. It is crazy how similar we are, but yet the truths aren't there. He was trying to get us to think about Islam and the prophet Muhammad and think about reading the Qu'ran. He told me that I was very narrow minded in my beliefs and elder King was open to other avenues. That baffled me a bit because I really hadn't said anything to him because he was talking the whole time. I agreed with some of the stuff he was saying too because we are pretty similar. We ended standing there inhaling cigarette smoke and talking to him for an hour. It was a really interesting conversation though. We left him with a copy of the BOM to read and some pamphlets and left because he took up about half of our time knocking.
Other than that it was a pretty simple week. I love the ward here and it's such a amazing time to be a missionary. Hope you all have a good week. Feel free to email me if you haven't already. Till next week.
Elder Jones
